demo won't open

Postby juanchamo » Wed Oct 01, 2003 1:03 am

Hi!,
I downloaded the Metro SE 6.1 demo but it won't open when I double.click the app icon on my ibook 500. I¡m on OX 10.2.6.
I'm new to OSX and I don't really know where I should start looking to solve this problem.
Can you help me?
Juan

It opens here on 10.2.6

Have you tried the other version online?
If that works, you may have downloaded a corrupt version of SE or the download didn't finish.

*** - it has been unstuffed with stuffit expander to begin with?

Hi!
Thanks for your kind reply.
As far as I know, the problem is that the version I get is the OS9 version and I can't open it because I haven't got OS9 installed.
My ibook tries to open in classic but it isn't there.
This happens with both versions of Metro: SE and the full app too.
Since the download engine selects the right OS version for the computer that starts the downloading process, do you think there may be a problem with my computer OS identification?
I'm going to download it again.
Thanks a lot
Juan

Somewhere there is an option to launch an app like Metro in classic mode instead of in X.
This could be causing the problem.
I can't remember where the option is located.

I am currently in 9. In 9 if I hold down the control key while clicking on the metro app, it displays a menu. One of the options is show package contents.
You can then enter metro like a folder and find the OSX version and launch it.

Hi Juan.
Back in OSX. :)

If you just Get Info on the Metro icon you will find a check box labelled - Open in the Classic Environment.

Make sure this is OFF.

Console

Postby Jerm » Thu Oct 02, 2003 10:21 pm

Hi Juan,

Try this as it might provide valuable information. Open the console program, goto preferences and turn crash reporting on. Then double click the Metro app and if anything different happens let me know.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Hi!
Thanks a lot for your help.
First af all I tried turning off the open in classic environment option, but that didn't work.
The console log reported this:
Oct 3 06:53:39 Juan-Chamorros-Computer WindowServer[458]: ERROR! execle(/Applications/Metro SE Demo Folder/Metro SE Demo.app/Contents/MacOS/Metro SE Demo) returned, err=22
Does it mean anything to you?
I remember back on OS9, I always gave more RAM memory to the app which crashed before opening. Can you do that on OS X?
Thanks
Juan

No. OSX manages memory to each app open, and when you open another it moves things about.

How much memory do you have installed?

I don't know what happens when memory is tight on OSX. Probably things start slowing down a lot.

Well I am not sure but error 22 means 'package 5 is not available'. Package 5 is the transcendentals package for some exotic math functions. But I also noted on the web that this error means 'invalid or unsupported parameter'.

Perhaps your system is not installed correctly?

Could a bad plugin be causing the problem?......or is it not even really getting that far?

Have you had other Metro versions working or is this the first one?
If you have older versions, are they still working?

Scoot,

Not a bad plug-in. He does not even get to the startup screen.

Confused Audio/Midi Setup perhaps?

Sounds like it coud be more ibook related than metro related.....but if he has previous versions that work.......well juanchamo needs to tell us that first.

Hi,
Thanks for your help.
I've got 320 MB RAM. It's not a lot but I don't think that's the problem.
It's the first Metro version I've tried to look at.
Wrongly installed OS could be the thing but in that case I'd have to install the system again to know.
It's a pity. I'm looking for an audio/midi app and metro SE looks nice.
I'll let you know when I install the system again
Thanks
Juan

Obviously you're talking about the price here since you haven't managed to see Metro first hand yet. Good luck in your efforts.

Problem solved. Here is the solution. Go to this link and click on the
"I have a .sit file containing an application, installer, or script that I expanded with Stuffit Deluxe or Standard 8.0. When I try the launch the application nothing happens. Why is this?"
