If it matters any, I'm using Metro 7.2.4, on a Mac with 10.11.5 (El Capitan).
I would definitely try the 7.3.x version as 7.2.4 is quite old now.
So I fired up the alphatrack and while it has quite a bit of dust on it, it still works quite well. The shift key is not a mode button in that it only works while it is being held down. Thus the LED lights turn off when the shift button is pressed. However, I also could not get the LED's to work with shifted events. After looking into this, I discovered what I believe is a bug. The logic was saying that if the modifiers (shift, option, mode, etc.) did not match, then the LED should turn off. This seems wrong as it will make the lights flash as the events without the shift key contradict the events with the shift key. Thus the fix, which seems to work, is to ignore the event completely if the modifiers do not match. This will be in 7.4 also.

On the PC this is working fine so I need to check on the Mac. Please try the latest version you can get and let me know.
