Basics: Sections

Postby abovethoughts » Wed Feb 19, 2014 12:26 am

Hi -

Sections continue to be looked at by me as a mysterious place where I seem to be making all kind of mistakes, so in order to expedite the learning process, below are my questions regarding sections...

1. When I create a new section, why do I lose my instruments? I would like to create a new section and keep intact my previous instruments choices exactly as i left them from the previous section.

2. Also, when I go to render/mix I can't seem to get multiple sections to export. I have only managed to mix/render/export one section at a time (definitely user error in this one)

3. Also, I would like to be able to use Ultra Rhythm Explorer to make multiple patterns on a single track, y'know having multiple 4 bar URE results one after another on a single track. Since, I haven't solved that, I am forced to make a new section where I can then make another track with a URE output. So I might end up with multiple sections just to get multiple URE outpust. So really if you have a solution to string multiple URE output on one track that would be great to know.

I am not sure what you are referring to here. When you refer to 'instruments', do you mean Software Plug-in Synthesizers? If yes, then the answer is two-fold. First, the reason it works how it does now is because the scope of a track insert plug-in is limited to the section it is instantiated in. However this is true only until the next release of Metro where track inserts have global scope. I have this working now but there are a few minor details to work out. In the meantime consider instantiating on an aux buss.

Multiple sections will only export if they are sub sections. Search this forum or support for subsections, basic outline here.

You should absolutely be able to do this. I am not sure why it does not work. Most likely you are starting with notes in the selection. If you start with notes in the selection, URE thinks you want to work with those notes only. It is better to have a chord progression in the markers if you want URE to generate cooler stuff.

Here is a video of how to create a subsection:

Yes, I did mean synths. Cheers to widening the scope of a track from Section to Global - this really will boost productivity! The aux buss idea sounds interesting ...
