Been a while

Postby PhilG » Sat Aug 07, 2010 1:32 pm

Hey Jeremy. It's been while, but I am revisiting options for sequencer for a duo. I bought metro a while back and don't have any problem buying it again since it has been so long . But I am trying to verify how I was thinking of using it :-)
Seems like I was thinking I could flatten competed sequences into a single track. Then I could create a section to represent a set and have it contain a song on each track. Am I incorrect thinking this? Or maybe I was thinking a section would be a song, and it would have tracks that represented say a verse, chorus, bridge, and I could switch among them to not be stuck in a linear arrangment. Or maybe in was thinking there was something in metro to create a playlist and just go that route. Do you have a way you could recommend for flexible live use?
Finally, do you know of any good gm virtual instruments for use in metro?
Glad to see the forum still around.

I am not sure what "flatten competed sequences" means but if you mean converting an entire sequence to a single audio (or midi) track you can certainly do that. The sections window has buttons for configuring sequences into auto play or auto advance modes. Useful for a live situation.

This is certainly one of the uses for subsections. Where each subsection can be dragged within a track to different locations easing the arrangement creation process.

Well in addition to above, there is the jukebox. You could configure the jukebox to hold all your live songs (as some sort of audio file or MP3 file) and then you could have each set be a jukebox preset. In this case you would need to manually stop the songs if necessary in the middle of the set.

François, would know more as he has been using Metro in a live situation for quite some time.

ESoundz has Omnisynth which is pretty good. There may be a newer Omnisynth 2 somewhere.

I think there are also some fairly good GM SF2 files for free which you can use with the Apple DLS/Soundfont synth.

Sorry . Meant "completed" . . Would be taking a competed sequence then smash everything to a single treacle like a type 1 or something. I am calling a sequence, essentially a song.

This is certainly interesting. Can you assign a controller or note to switch between ?

I am leaning towards staying with midi for different mixing capabilities but cool to know.

Thanks . Maybe he will chime in or I'll pester him.
