two basic questions

I have used Cakewalk Metro 5 for many years now and love it. However I am being pushed off of the OS 9 platform and forced to use OS X. Can I just upgrade from Metro 5 to Metro 6?

I use this for basic audio editing that can become extensive which leads to the other question. While testing the features of 6 I noticed that I can't drag audio content from track 2 onto audio track 1 without replacing the content of track 1. I did find that I can simply select the area of track 1 and 2 and merge them and that works fine. However if I use a fade out or a fade in on track 2 then merge it with track 1 it won't merge with the fade. Metro 5 simply allowed me to edit content from track 2 then merge it with track 1 by dragging it onto track one while keeping the edit of track 2 (fading in and out or whatever). Is 6 capable of this?

I thank anyone who made it this far and if anyone has any idea please let me know.

I am not quite sure I understand but I think if you copy (or cut) track 1 and then merge onto track 2 you will get just that; a merge of track one and track two. When you say 'fade', do you mean automation fade or audio fade via the fade menu? In any case, if you have track one and track two and you want to mix them you should probably be using 'Mix audio tracks' from the file menu (not available in the demo version). Mix Audio Tracks works for all audio and VI tracks. It will not do anything to pure MIDI tracks.

Okay, I knew I would word it to be confusing but we are on the same page. Yes merging the two tracks does what I want. Here's a better example. I import an audio track that needs to be shorter. The song goes this way:

intro - verse - chorus - verse - chorus - solo - chorus - end.

But I need to make the song:

intro - verse - chorus - verse - chorus - end.

I know that the simple copy/paste ritual works but some times i have to do a crossfade in the midst of a cut (could be an overlapping vocal part or a key change etc...) so I'll do an audio fade using the fade menu (one fade in and one fade out) on each track to create what I want. Then I just merge the two edits together to one track and export that track that is now edited instead of mixing down. It's much, much faster this way seeing as I'm only working with one track essentially.

Is this making any sense yet or have I just wasted everyones time by posting this.

Well that should work exactly the same as Metro 5. As far as I can tell nothing has changed since Metro 5 in regard to dragging audio and merging/mixing. Perhaps if you give an exact step by step procedure I can find out what you are talking about.
