Thinking of getting Metro. Convince me!

Hi all!
I need a new sequencer program (have been using logic) and have been thinking of Cubase studio 4 as I used to use Cubase and liked it BUT am also considering Metro since I noticed it.
I have a G4 right now but will be getting a new Mac soon. I intend to use the new M-Audio Profire interface to go to my 24 channel external convertors and will mix on my desk mainly.
What is so good about Metro? How reliable is it? How is it for using as a 24 track recorder (I work like that usually). Is Metro good at that? Is it efficient on the CPU?
Does it have Delay Compensation for plug ins??
Get my drift! Alas this stuff is not so easy to find online as not too many people seem to talk about Metro (A shame I get the feeling)

I get the feeling if some extra plugins or virtual instruments were bundled, people might accept it more. Not a big issue for me but studio 4 is not much more expensive, so I need convincing
Also, are there any reviews online?
I will grab the demo and check it out, but honest user feedback is very welcome too.

It is very reliable. If you can find a (serious) problem we can usually have it fixed and posted within a month and usually less (more like a week).

Jerm mentioned being able to fix a bug you may find in a rather short time.

One thing he didn't mention is if you want a new feature or way of doing something, (and you can explain it well enough) Jerm can add features faster than a speeding bullet. (No pressure eh Jerm? )

I don't know of any other music software where the author responds so quickly. No need for auto responses here.

Once you become familar with the layout and method of working it becomes a very simple program to create with.

If you have a track in the graphic editor, you can click on the plus symbol (on the left side) and have multiple views of any number of tracks or multiple views of the same track displaying different parameters. (Fully editable automation in the full version).

As for plugins and effects - there are plenty of free ones about - and on a G4 there are HEAPS........compared to intel macs.

If you wanted to purchase a good piece of kit it would depend on what you're doing. Something like sampletank could give you instruments with built in effects. Something like absynth is going to allow you to develop your own if so inclined.
But for free there are also soundfonts loaded by the DLSMusicDevice plugin and you can add effects on top of those.


If you have a sluggish G4 then expect a CPU regularly maxing out as usual.
But if you already have a pretty zippy setup then expect probably a little improvement.


I always thought people who bought other apps talked so much to make em feel better on the outlay they've just spent.

I use Metro (full version) both professionally and for my personal music projects. Although I own other sequencers (some of which include a wealth of bundled plugins), Metro is the tool I reach for (click on?).

For me, the most important thing is stability and efficiency. All the features and plugins in the world are of no use to me if I'm risking hours of creativity and production work to frequent crashes. Metro is, by far, the most stable audio application I've used. But this is not to say Metro is a light-weight regarding features. The full version is a very feature rich and flexible application. In fact, there are some things it can do that my other DAW/sequencers can't!

My projects can be quite large at times and usually include virtual instruments, audio tracks, and many plugins. Since Metro is so CPU efficient, I can run all of the plugins I need AND keep the audio buffer size small for low latency! Speaking of plugins, Metro supports both VST and AU plugins and instruments!

Lastly, Sagan Technology is a great company. They respond very quickly to bugs and post frequent updates. They also keep with the (never ending) changes to the Mac platform.

It's as simple as this . . . since I am running a business, I can't afford not to use the best out there. Right now, that means Metro. Oddly, it remains one of the best kept secrets in the business. Give the demo a try and let me know what you think. Good luck.
