I have looked at several and while they all work as advertised, I have to yet to find one I like for under $400. The full size 49 key Korg was the best I have found so far but is very pricey. I have an Evolution keyboard that works well except the velocity curves are not good at all. I tried the EMU's and did not like the feel of those either. I have heard that the new Edirol keyboards have a nice feel although I have not tried them yet. They supposedly use the same keys as the upper roland keyboard which are very good.

Let me know if you find any good ones out there.

did you heard about the Axiom 49 from M-Audio.
It seems a very good product ...
but I'm not a pro for the choice.

I am very much looking forward to trying out this product. It looks like it could be a very versatile and fantasic plug-in.

These type of devices - 'semi hammer'

Do they give you the control of a piano or do you need a full hammer action to get such a result?

ie. in midi could you achieve 128 steps of velocity or is it lower like 8-10 steps?

I do like the look of them.........especially the 61 key options.....but I haven't gone to a music store to see them in person yet......actually I don't know if they stock them yet either.

a pricier option would be something like the novation x-series...for a hundred bucks more than the ReMote controller-only series, you get a 2-in, 2-out audio interface, and harware synth...that's all usb-bus powered :)
i love my x-station 25 to death! and the ub drivers are pretty solid.
i think they also make 39, and 61 key versions.
