Metro compiled for Intel Macs?

Postby Industro » Thu Jul 21, 2005 7:51 pm

With Apple transitioning to the Intel chipset in 2006, are there plans for Sagantech to recompile Metro as a dual-binary to run on the next generation Mac-Intel machines?

From what I've seen/read, the transition (from a developers standpoint) is quite straightforward.

Any thoughts/comments on this? It would be very nice to see Metro live on through the next generation of Macs. :D

I haven't done much research into this yet but I would bet that Metro will be compatible with intel processor Macs at some point.

What does Sagan Tech use to code Metro?

If you use Xcode, creating an Intel-binary is as simple as clicking a "checkbox" when you compile (supposedly). Steve Jobs gave a great demo of this during one of the recent developer conferences (there should be a Quicktime stream somewhere on the Apple site if you're interested).

In my humble opinion, Metro is far more robust and versitile for the price than most other pro-audio solutions. It would be great to see this great tool transend to the next Apple incarnation.

We have been using Codewarrior for all of the previous releases.

Currently we have switched over to XCode but it is not without difficulties. We do have version Metro 6.3.2 compiling and running successfully with XCode. However there is, of course, no way to support OS 9 with XCode. Not that that is a high priority at this point.

To answer your question, I do not think it will be too difficult to get Metro running on Mac Intel machines when they become available to the public.
