Making Metro run more efficiently & saving system resour

Postby Jin » Wed May 26, 2004 11:23 pm

A friend and I were wondering about any tips that might be out there to make Metro SE run faster!!

I was recently enlightened about the neat little car icon that de-activates the desktop.
(Setup/DigitalAudio/Advanced/Blue Convertible)

Does having a track designated to record (the red record button on) take up more resources during playback?

Does having multiple effects/plug-ins open, take up any additional resources.

And also prior to OS X, it was very simple to tell the operating system that you wanted to allocate more memory to a certain program. If you clicked on it's icon and hit "Command + I" / Info. In the info window that pops up ,there was an option for memory that you used to be able to jack up.

No it is a Miata.

Yes but not too much. Metro has to monitor the audio to produce the vu meter.

Yes. This can be quite substantial especially if you are feeding silence through 4 reverbs, which can happen with certain plug-ins like SampleTank 2.

OS X works much differently pertaining to memory allocations. It is important to have available memory in OS X. Try to run as few programs/processes as possible. Having the max memory for your machine can make a big difference.

Do all the plugins in the plugins window use up memory if they are just sitting there?

Or does the memory get allocated when you drag them to the effects window to use them?

speed hints Jerm could confirm

turn off playback scrolling
chasing?
midi and audio thru?
fiddle with audio buffer packet size?

No.
Scoot wrote:Or does the memory get allocated when you drag them to the effects window to use them?

Yes. When they are instantiated, they use memory and processor cycles.

chasing?

Very minimal savings here.

Scoot wrote:midi and audio thru?

MIDI thru and even audio thru do not use much in terms of resources.
Scoot wrote:fiddle with audio buffer packet size?

Audio buffer packet size can have a big impact on performance. Set it to a higher value to get better performance at the expense of higher latency.
