Yes, but that pop-up only works if you are using the DLSMusicDevice. If you are just accessing the QT instruments, you spawn the 'Select sound for channel' window when clicking in the Pgm field.

He should use the DLSMusicDevice. Does it have any other benefits, like better sound quality or control?

I don't know any more since Quicktime has been updated to 6.5 but before QT instruments had several problems like pitch bend being responded to incorrectly and other things. DLS has consistently worked better than QT and I believe it responds to more MIDI controllers and, of course, you don't get that annoying pop-up dialog when changing program names.

Perhaps a feature request in the right place on this forum may make a difference in future versions of Metro....

I went to the sfArk Compression site and there is a OSX version but it only works for sfArk V2 files. sfArk v1 files require the full(Windows) version. They are asking people to inform the authors of sound fonts to rearchive into the new format.

I checked out http://www.soundfont.com/ but the sounds are just the EMU module sounds. They sound a bit thin to me, like my Proteus 2000.

Still no OSX version of the Edirol soft synths so i'm scrounging around for sound fonts

sfArk site

The sfArk site is this one. http://melodymachine.com/sfark.htm

Just a part of Melody Machine. Seems like most of the sfArk files are V1. It would be nice if they were all updated to V2 files.

If you go to the hammersound website, the beauty there is, if you see it referring to melodymachine for the soundfont, you just continue on to the next one.

for instance it's impossible for me to change the DLS music device sounds from the tracks window, in the bank and PGM cloumn, the sound names appear with a grey color, and I can't change anything ( it's only possible with the graphic editor window )
Could you tell me how change the DLS / QT sounds in the track window ?

If you have internal selected as an output in the tracks window, and click on the program option, it is adjustable.

If you allocate outputs to the DLS and load a soundfont and choose a bank in the graphic editor, you can then select program options from the tracks window.

I don't use the tracks window a lot.
I use it just to see which tracks are recording, muted, solo'd and outputting levels......usually on works that haven't been opened for a while.
