Time signature copy/paste

Postby flanchec » Mon Dec 29, 2003 1:53 pm

Hello,

I have been trying the Metro Demo lately... I have some problems dealing with complex songs... For example, I frequently use time signature changes everywhere. For example, suppose you have a verse with 10 time signature changes, right at the beginning of a song. After having worked a lot on the project, you realize that you want to copy the very same verse somewhere else in the song... How do you insert all the data, *including* the time signature structure ?

(I've tried with "insert time", and "delete time", but they behave quite strangely IMO... with regard to time signature events)

Thank you in advance !

Vincent,

Okay. This is not as easy as it should be. You should be able to simply copy and paste the time signature events in the section event editor but alas you cannot (yet).

The easiest way to do what you want is to create a section with the repeating time signature events (say 3/4, 7/8, 5/4) and then in the section window name it "section1". Then create a new section and drag "section1" to the graphic editor window. This will create a subsection. From the graphic editor window copy the entire subsection (select it and copy from the edit menu). Do not worry about time signatures in the parent section yet. Paste at exactly at the end of the first subsection as many times as desired. Then select all and from the edit menu select get-section-events. This will copy all of the time signature, key signature and tempo events into the parent section.

If you have music in the subsections you can also use expand-by-sections to create a linear version.

I just tried copying and pasting time signatures and tempo events from the section event editor and it worked. I am not sure why it did not work when I tried it earlier. I do know that you must explicitly set the insertion point before pasting.
