Is Metro G4 best on a G5?

Postby GarySome1 » Sat Nov 15, 2003 11:20 pm

Is the G4 version of Metro better optimized for a G5 than the normal Metro version? Y'know, just in case 100 tracks and 80 reverbs isn't enough...

:D

Gary,

If this means you just received a G5, congratulations.

I would think, although we do not have one in house yet, that because the G5 supports the altivec (128 bit) processor of the G4, that the Metro G4 version would provide some noticeable performance improvement over the regular Metro (non-G4) version.

I think even the non G4 version would outperform my machine just due to raw horsepower!

Thanks - this baby hums! I was quite happy with the performance of Metro on my B&W G3/350 but when I started doing iMovie/Final Cut Express movies it was clear the more horsepower the better. I guess you can make big jumps when you only upgrade every 5 or 6 years. Of course I'll feel silly when the 2.5 or 3.0GHz duals come out for the same price.

Thanks also for the speedy reply. I'm currently trying to copy some Metro files over from my G3 to the G5 and will look in the online Metro manual to see if there are any shortcuts. I knew I'd have the "Change Ports" issue but I was surprised to see that Metro needed to find the audio files.

Can't wait to start making music again!

Yes, you should save your files as portable bundles. These makes it quite easy to transfer them.
