Download using FireFox problems

Postby w » Wed Apr 26, 2006 6:37 pm

I downloaded Metro LX and SE 6.352 using the latest version of FireFox.

However when I tried to open the files it tried to use QuickTime Player. When I did the Command Apple-I it shows the files to be a MPEG video.

Now this has happened in the past and I always end up going to Safari.

My OS is 10.4.6 and run repair permissions and also DiskWarrior on a regular basis.

Not sure why I always have such problems downloading METRO updates.

Well I tried downloading with Netscape and it worked fine. It works fine with Safari of course. Then I downloaded Firefox and tried it. I noticed first of all that Firefox downloads the filename as 'Metro' even though it should be 'Metro SE Installer.zip' so apparently there is a bug in Firefox where it will not download files with a space in their name properly. I then changed the downloads so that the downloaded file appears to the browser without spaces and Firefox was able to download it as a .zip file. So hopefully it will work correctly now. Let me know if it doesn't.

Thanks Jerm.

It now works in FireFox.

Perhaps you could tell FireFox about that bug?
