Possible to record multiple midi tracks at the same time?

No questions asked!

Possible to record multiple midi tracks at the same time?

Postby Lytz1 » Sat Jul 18, 2015 11:51 am

And another one here.

Is it possible to record multiple midi tracks at the same time?

With that I have a very specific scenario here:

I have a chord generating VST which I have set to "record midi".

I wanted to record theese chord notes to another midi track,
so I enabled both tracks (the track where the vst is, so that I can play it in the first place)
and another midi track, with the input set to the shared midi-port of that vst.

However I can't get it to work. There is either midi data arriving
on one channel OR the other, never on both at the same time, as soon as I go into record.

I guess I have a setup error here or I made some other mistake.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

tL.

You will need to record-enable (with shift) both tracks and be sure their input selections point to the correct input device. What is the name of the generating VST?

I tried it with XFer Cthulu and Harmony Improvisator.

The thing is, I did everything you mentioned, and it works as long as I am
only in "play" mode. I can noodle away all day long.
But as soon as I hit record, the output gets silenced!
(Despite Metro is "recording" I don't hear what I am playing and nothing gets recorded. )

Any idea?

(With Five12s Numerology it works, but N4 has its own internal sequencer, so I do not
have to play myself on one track and record on the other one.)

Can you get it to fail with a free program?

I will look into this further when I get a chance.

Yeah, you can check the Kirnu-Cream Arpeggiator,

its demo version functions just like the licensed version exept it doesn't save presets.

I used this a lot in other hosts, don't need it when I work with Metro though, because of the

Revolution Arp, but I just checked it and didnt have any luck to get this to redord anything into metro as well.

You can get it here, pretty decent thing anyways.

Well, actually it has nothing to do with the VSTi.
The problem is quite bigger after all.

I can't record midi on more than one track at the same time *at all*.
Just tested it with my standart masterkeyboard.

Is there somewhere a setting that prevents to record on multiple channels at once??

I have uploaded a video that shows the problem. Actually there *must* be a setting somewhere or
I am pretty sure this has to be a bug then. I guess you'll see right away what I mean.

It worked for me but it does require a bit of setup. Here is how I did it. First instatiate cream. Go to instantiated effects window, right click on the name of the plug and be sure to check the 'record MIDI' setting as seen below

Then record enable (in my case I am using Zebra as the sound source) both tracks and be sure, and this is the important part, that cream is getting input only from an external MIDI source or 'keyboard' and that zebra is getting input only from cream. See below:

I watched your video. You cannot record multiple tracks while record looping is on. Turn it off and try again.

Yees, that did it, thanks a bunch!

I would never have thought of that.

Thanks again,
