Metro 6 LX Released!

Postby Jerm » Thu Jan 15, 2004 4:18 pm

Due to repeated request, Sagan Technology has released Metro 6 LX. This is the middle sibling in our product line. Bigger than Metro SE yet much more compact than the full version of Metro. This product, like our others, is available for download only. However, unlike the other products, LX is an OS X only product.

LX contains most of the features of the Metro 6 full product including: 16 sections, 48 tracks, 10 simultaneous audio tracks, 10 simultaneous real-time plug-ins or 3 synthesizer plug-ins. In addition to all SE features, LX includes 'Set Selection' and 'Tap Tempo'. No video or notation and audio is limited to 16 bit. An internet connection is required for download and registration.

The price is currently $129.99 and upgrades from Sagan Technology's SE product are just $49.99

Hey Jerm,

I'm trying to upgrade SE to LX at the company store, but I'm getting the following message:

Either you are not registered for one or more products in your cart, or your username or password was entered incorrectly.
You forgot to fill in Password.

I know I'm a special case, but I'd really like to upgrade. Can you fix it?

Also, the upgrade is listed as 9 of 8 and appears on a separate page, which may be hard for some to find. Since I'm sure a lot of SE users are likely to upgrade, maybe it could be more prominent?

One more thing, will the LX version run a bit better on lesser machines in any tasks than the full version, considering the lack of video support?

Thanks! I'll upgrade as soon as it's possible.

Braj,

Thanks. We have updated the store to have 9 items per page so paging is unnecessary. You probably will need to scroll however.

If you didn't upgrade braj, I would have been shocked!

I would think the app would run the same....as if you're not using a certain option, the cpu isn't noticing anyway.

Yeah, but an app needs to load libraries etc. and you never know how it'll work out.

I'm happy with the new version except for one thing - you still don't have Software Audio Thru. With GarageBand making that available for so little, it kind of seems like it should even be in SE. There are a lot of guitarists out there like myself where that is a big deal.

Incidentally, My wife bought me a new Epiphone SG and a Alesis amp with built in effects, so this isn't an issue with me anymore, but still, GB is raising the bar as to what features should be standard.

Maybe in a future update?

I'd also like to see more themes. I know it's not that big of a deal, but it would be nice. Maybe allow a way for us to edit the resource files ourselves?

I wonder if Metro has any features that GB doesn't? Perhaps quite a few I presume.

Hurting some of their loyal developers would be more accurate than raising the bar.

Look what final cut pro did to preimere.

It's interesting to see apple playing the 1984 ad at macworld again and then release a product that is for (as Steve Jobs said) non musicians to make music. Were these non musicians in the apple ad audience?
Big Brother can make you a musician too!

That's one way to look at it, I guess. I would disagree, and say that although Apple isn't driving innovation here, they sure are broadening the market. There are plenty of musicians who would love to do computer-based music just like everyone used a 4-track in the 'old days'. But, you have to admit, apps like Metro (which I understand is one of the more straightforward ones) can be daunting to use at times. If Apple can get these musicians over the hurdle of moving to a computer-based porta-studio, they surely will run into the wall of limitations GarageBand has. Then they'll come shopping for something more powerful, and Metro and others will benefit. That is, if they market themselves successfully and make things a bit more user friendly.

I really don't see this as Apple hurting developers at all.

No software audio thru?

Postby Tenebrous » Fri Jan 16, 2004 8:06 pm

Software audio through is a HUGE DEAL if you have a MIDI controller! Sigh. I was so looking forward to getting LX too.

Very bummed,

Actually, Midi thru is there and it works. It's audio that I mentioned. Like, plugging in your guitar and using the AU delay in real-time. It's not that drastic, but because a (nearly) free app has it, I would expect the LX version to get it as well.

Plus, you couldn't use the effects to sing Karaoke over an imported Midi track of 'Islands in the stream' in real-time. That's what I'm talking about.

Ok, sorry, it's been a long day.
