IMPORTANT: The official system requirements have changed as of 6.1.

IMPORTANT: Metro Documents written with this version will NOT be readable in any version prior to Metro/Metro SE version 6.2.1!

IMPORTANT: This is a pre-release, meaning it has some bug fixes (and possibly features) that were deemed important enough to be released before it could be rigorously tested.

The following list includes changes to Metro, Metro SE and Metro LX. Some changes may not be applicable to specific products.

New to version 6.2.1.7:
• New: Sample accurate Metronome. The factory setting switch of the Metronome dialog will select the new sample accurate metronome. The old default metronome was using the sound manager (even in OS X) and was significantly late. Also channel 16 of Port:internal is now like any other internal channel (QuickTime Musical Instrument) and is no longer reserved for the Metronome.
• New: Metro now keeps track of favorite MIDI controllers as a sub category of each program name list. This means that each output device, including SoftSynths, can have one or more of its own favorite controller lists and the favorite controllers will change depending on the selected track. These are also read and written from .ins files automatically.
• New: Much more of an OS X look. Metro now defaults to Quartz Font drawing in OS X and supports it in the editing of text for tracks, sections and elsewhere.
• New: Independent Track Loops are now supported for Soft-Synths.
• New: Metro is now Audio Unit compliant in regard to the resizing of plug-in edit windows.
• New: Improvements were made to the continuous data display view of the graphic editor.
• New: The default audio port is now memorized across launches. Assigning an output to a track or the Jukebox will set the default audio port.
• New: Support for transport changed for SoftSynths.
• New: Support for VST 2 plug-ins Update Display allows the plug-in to inform Metro when the patch name has changed.
• New: A new track option appears in the effects window track popup.
• New: Editing of program names from the program names dialog is now undoable.
• New: Editing of Section names and Track names are now more consistent and use the same interface. Option-click to edit and double-click to open.
• New: Jukebox defaults to extracting the album and artists names from the folders to be consistent with iTunes.
• New: Lyrics and Markers from MIDI and Karaoke files are preserved when the file is output.
• New: Import of MIDINam files now includes XML support for stripping of special characters like '@', quote and others.
• New: When subsections are created via dragging, their colors are copied from the parent section.
• New: Midi Reset Flags are now available for all Metro outputs. Previously Metro would always reset modulation, pitchbend and aftertouch when commencing playback. Now the user can decide which events should be reset for which outputs.
• New: new switch, Regions Tie to Tempo, if set all audio regions MIDI times are preserved upon completion of tempo changes.
• New: Much improved performance under OS X when clicking in name field in the tracks window.

• Fixed: Detection of hard disk too slow under OS X. Previously audio would skip and continue.
• Fixed: A long standing audio glitch that occurred on the commencement of playback has been eradicated. Yippee!
• Fixed: Much more accurate SoftSynth rendering and much more accurate reporting of sample and beat times to SoftSynths.
• Fixed: Durations of notes extending past the end of the subsection are now always clipped to the end of the subsection. This was previously true only for non-SoftSynth MIDI events.
• Fixed: Metro now correctly recognizes the number of Audio Unit plug-in outputs and busses and configures those plug-ins accordingly. This bug was made evident by Toontrack's Superior Drummer plug-in.
• Fixed: Expand subsections was not working 100% correctly when SoftSynths were embedded as track inserts in the subsections.
• Fixed: Minor memory leaks.
• Fixed: The List editor was not following playback correctly in all cases.
• Fixed: Delete Tracks had a problem whereby soft-synth outputs were being removed. Subsequently when an undo was performed the outputs were not being restored causing the wrong outputs to be assigned to tracks in some cases.
• Fixed: The graphic editor view is now properly recalculated after a paste.
• Fixed: Pasting complete sections would sometimes not paste Softsynths properly.
• Fixed: A crash could occur if a plug-in was inserted in a subsection while playing.
• Fixed: SoftSynths that are out of scope are not shown in the device popup menus any more. Out of scope would be a track insert on a different section for example.
• Fixed: Core Audio latencies is calculated more accurately.
• Fixed: The display of sample time in the graphic editor is now only shown when in an audio view.
• Fixed: Volume or effect automation could become out of order after deleting time in some circumstances. This would cause the display and editing to become weird. If Metro detects automation unordered, it now will automatically fix the data.
• Fixed: Drawing of grid lines in the graphic editor was not always correct depending on the zoom amount.
• Fixed: The data scale for Audio Unit plug-in automation is now checked for out of range. In rare circumstances this could cause a crash if the parameter was out of range.
• Fixed: Metro no longer produces a hiccup when a SoftSynth plug-in that accepts audio is stopped.
• Fixed: Metronome now outputs during countoff if the Metronome port was assigned to a SoftSynth.
• Fixed: Subsections containing SoftSynths now work properly regardless of whether the parent section is assigned to a SoftSynth or not.
• Fixed: A SoftSynth plug-in with a mono out or an odd number of outs, placed on an aux buss could have caused a crash.
• Fixed: Miscellaneous minor display problems in the effects window, graphic editor, tracks window and elsewhere.
• Fixed: Hanging notes for soft-synths was possible when the duration of the note was very short.
• Fixed: Better SoftSynth compatibility.
• Fixed: Changed the word 'Reveal' to 'Show' in all dialogs and menus.
• Fixed: selecting 'New' from the file menu would sometimes cause MIDI-thru to stop.

New to version 6.2.1.6:
• Fixed: A problem introduced in 6.2.1.3 whereby if the qualification dialog appeared upon startup, later Quicktime would hang under certain circumstances.
• Fixed: Audio monitoring was not turned on when the jukebox stopped playing leaving a stuck VU meter.
• Fixed: A problem where a popup was not popping up (OS X only) in the modify-outputs-and-busses dialog after an audio output was selected in the jukebox window.

New to version 6.2.1.5:
• New: Better compatibility with plug-ins that generate their own note or drum data, for example Glaresoft's iDrum or PowerFX's Miracle drums.
• New: If a single MIDI file is dragged to the graphic editor window it will now be added to the current section. Previously this would load the MIDI file in a new section. This does have the side effect of adding section events (tempos, time signatures) to the current section.
• Fixed: Inserting first and second endings in the notation view would cause a crash.
• Fixed: The jukebox was not playing back .Wav files correctly if their sample rates were not 44kHz.
• Fixed: Metro would quit (thanks QuickTime!) when the jukebox encountered a .M4P file (iTunes protected file) during scanning.
• Fixed: Digital audio overviews were not correct if the section contained tempo changes. This bug was introduced in a recent pre-release.
• Fixed: When a note's duration was being dragged (via shift-click) and that note was on a track that contains both MIDI and Audio, the note end time was not being displayed properly in the upper left of the graphic editor.
• Fixed: minor cosmetic problems in the graphic editor.
• Fixed: Tempo changes were not being reported to plug-ins during mixing or rendering.
• Fixed: Effect automation is now taken into account when calculating the length of a track.
• Fixed: A crash could occur if the event editor was following playback and automation was inserted via the mixer window's contextual menu.
• Fixed: Delete and Insert Time now work on automation data on a track.
• Fixed: Grids were not drawn in the graphic editor for time signature 1/4.

New to version 6.2.1.3:

• New: Metro supports plug-ins that default to 20 outputs or less. Previously it was 16.
• New: Worked around a bug in the Audio Unit versions of Crystal, Amplitube and TRackS that would cause these plugs to crash if uninitialized and then re-initialized which is necessary to change the sample rate.
• New: The Mix dialog now defaults to the current playback sample rate and audio packet size.
• New: Metro does a better job of resolving program names for multiple instances of a single plug-in.
• New: Metro now bounces its icon in the dock when it needs attention.
• New: Metro will now start up the audio engine whenever a Soft-Synth is loaded. Previously, for example, the audio engine would be idle after Mixing audio. This provides a much better user experience as you can play notes from the plug-in at any time and hear them.
• Fixed: Metro was not setting AudioUnits to the correct mode before resetting their sample rates. This may have caused problems when Mixing audio to a different sample rate than the plyaback rate. Note that several plug-ins do not work properly when their sample rates are changed.
• Fixed: if a Sample Rate conversion was happening on a track that contained a plug-in that accepts both audio and MIDI,it was possible that audio would continue to sound after stopping.
• Fixed: Metro now detects if it is in the background better.
• Fixed: Rearranged some resources in the mix/render dialog that were conflicting with the Korg Legacy collection.
• Fixed: The display problem in Jaguar introduced in 6.2.1.1 was actually a bug in Metro. Jaguar users should see a slight increase in audio waveform drawing speed now.
• Fixed: Render was not working correctly in some cases.
• Fixed: In OS 9 the plug-ins window header was not drawing if there were no plug-ins.
• Fixed: Metro was initializing plug-ins to the old (saved) sample rate and then re-initializing them to the new sample rate. This would cause problems in plug-ins like Spectrasonics Atmosphere.
• Fixed: Mixing Audio was on rare occasions not setting the plug-ins audio packet size correctly.
• Fixed: Memory leaks.
• Fixed: The Mixer window would not display the status of mute and solo correctly for some color schemes.
• Fixed: Tracks that are both audio and MIDI were not showing audio in the tracks window.
• Fixed: Changing the output of a track was not automatically updating the plug-in field of the tracks window.
• Fixed: Some dialogs were modified for miinor cosmetic purposes.

New to version 6.2.1.2:

• Fixed: A simple patch to fix a major display problem introduced in the audio waveform optimization in 6.2.1.1 that only occurs in OS X Jaguar (10.2) and perhaps earlier systems.

New to version 6.2.1.1:

• New: Significantly improved use of CPU (as viewed by activity monitor), especially when in the background.
• New: Further Altivec (G4/G5) audio optimizations.
• New: optimization for drawing vu's in mixer window.
• New: optimization for drawing audio overviews in OS X.
• New: Whether a section's (or subsection's) longest track is looped is no longer determined by archived tracks. The longest track determines the duration of the section.
• New: Contextual Menu in the EFX window allows the user to trace inputs to and outputs from the effect or soft-synth. To use it, ctrl-click on the title bar in the EFX window.
• New: when loading documents with saved plug-ins Metro does a better job of displaying the name of the plug-in that is currently loading.
• New: Metro now defaults to auto MIDI thru on.

• Fixed: Metro was not properly configuring some AudioUnit plug-ins to multiple outputs. Multiple outs now work properly with plug-ins such as Battery and Phatmatik Pro.
• Fixed: There was a problem which could cause plug-ins output to become immediately silent instead of releasing naturally after the transport has been brought to a complete stop.
• Fixed: Count off did not work properly for Soft-Synth plug-ins.
• Fixed: It was possible in some circumstances that two effects would get set to the same cable creating some weird and undesirable sound effects.
• Fixed: Metro was not honoring the low and high controller range of the chasing dialog.
• Fixed: A bug prior to 6.2.1.1 in which chasing would not set the volume correctly because it was not being mapped through the master volume.
• Fixed: Metro no longer tries to configure Audio Units to 0 ins and 0 outs. This had no previously known bad affects but was totally unnecessary.
• Fixed: Changing the output of a soft-synth in the EFX window no longer leaves the vu in the mixer window hanging.
• Fixed: Metro was not always resolving soft-synth Program Name Lists properly. This could cause the list to be associated with the wrong plug-in.
• Fixed: a problem with introduced in 6.2 whereby Metro would crash if audio was dragged before anything was copied to the clipboard.
• Fixed: a problem whereby when drawing continuous audio data (such as volume or pan) for the first time, it would not appear or only partially appear.
• Fixed: a problem where upon drawing continuous data into an audio track, Metro would erroneously follow playback from the wrong time during the current cue iteration.
• Fixed: Metro was continously drawing the frame in the transport whether it had changed or not and this was unnecessarily using up CPU.
• Fixed: a problem whereby MIDI data was not always being copied underneath an audio selection during certain clipboard operations.
• Fixed: It was possible to hang Metro by dragging multiple audio files from the jukebox to the graphic editor and then switch to another application.
• Fixed: It was possible to hang Metro by rendering audio tracks.
• Fixed: If there were fewer than a screen full of plug-ins in the plug-in window, then after a column header sort was performed, a mouse click would occasionally select the wrong plug-in.
