Metro 6.2.1 Pre-release (no longer) available!

Postby Jerm » Wed Jun 09, 2004 11:19 am

Upgrades from 6.2 are free. All new purchases include access to the 6.2.1 version. The upgrade price is for upgrading any flavor of Metro from 6.0 or 6.1 to 6.2 and is now available for a fee of $14.99. This sale price will end when Metro 6.2 is officially increased.

:!: Because of the first bug mentioned below, all 6.2 users are strongly urged to upgrade to 6.2.1.

Download it here:
http://sagantech.biz/downloads.htm

IMPORTANT: The official system requirements have changed as of 6.1.

IMPORTANT: Metro Documents written with this version will NOT be readable in any version prior to Metro/Metro SE version 6.2.1!

IMPORTANT: This is a pre-release, meaning it has some bug fixes (and possibly features) that were deemed important enough to be released before it could be rigorously tested.

The following list includes changes to Metro, Metro SE and Metro LX. Some changes may not be applicable to specific products.

New to this version:

• New: Metro now allows plug-ins that accept both MIDI and Audio to be a track insert effect and both audio and MIDI data can be routed from a single track.
The views option has been expanded to allow both MIDI and audio views.
• New: Track contextual menu makes it very easy to find the outputs of a given track, archive, delete tracks and more.
This contextual menu is available both from the graphics editor track titlebar and from the tracks window.
• New: A checkbox has been added to the region edit dialog that allows the user to specify if the selected audio region is part of an audio loop.
If this is set then Metro handles tempo changes differently than if it is not set.
• New: Icons for Metro Bundle Files and Audio Overviews.
• New: Metro has a new Software Audio Thru Feedback Protection feature and a new option to disable it from the preferences dialog.
Software Audio Thru Feedback Protection, which defaults to on, causes software audio thru to automatically shut off if maximum audio levels are sustained
for a certain amount of time.
• New: Metro no longer ruins the license qualification if the user cancels out of the qualification dialog because Metro was launched from a different disk.
• New: There is now a plug-in column in the tracks window which is equivalent to the one in the graphic editor. This allows the user to see, in a glance,
which tracks are associated with which plug-ins and soft-synths.
• New: The Jukebox has a new fast forward button that works.
• New: The Jukebox responds to the left and right arrow keys differently. They are now equivalent to the next and previous song buttons.
• New: As of Panther (OS 10.3) many connected MIDI devices default to the port name "Port 1". If Metro sees this name it will now search further down the
device chain to find a more meaningful name.
• New: If more than one plug-in is installed on a track the synth/plugs popup menu will not default to any item.
• New: if a new plug/synth is selected from the synth/plugs popup menu all of the previous synth/plugs are now removed instead of just the first one.
If the user wants to append to the chain of plugs, she can hold the shift-key before selecting from the popup menu.
• New: The ability to select and move multiple sections at once in the section window.
Use shift-click to extend the selection and command-click to toggle it.
• New: The Core Audio device options dialog now displays the latency time in the audio packet popup menu.
• New: A new OS X AU plug-in alias has been added to the Metro folder and the old plug-ins folder has been renamed OS 9 plug-ins.
• New: Preset effect names used from the graphic editor popup can now be copied to the track name via the program-names-to-tracks menu item.
• Fixed: a bug that could cause audio regions to change inexplicably when the tempo is changed. This was introduced in 6.2.
• Fixed: in some case Metro would be outputting a buzzing sound after an audio unit plug-in returned an error. It will now output silence as it should.
• Fixed: Metro now allows the destination output to be set from the EFX window even if the plug-in is installed on a track.
This is equivalent to changing it in the graphic editor or tracks window.
• Fixed: Metro now allows program names associated with plug-ins to be saved and restored just as if they were external MIDI devices.
• Fixed: There was a problem whereby it was possible that the record-enabled track would mysteriously not show an audio signal.
• Fixed: The jukebox was not calculating the time played properly in some cases.
• Fixed: It is now possible to use the right mouse button in OS X to select note ranges in the graphic editor.
Previously a right click off of a note would create a one note note-range which was not very useful.
• Fixed: A possible crash after deleting part of a track.
• Fixed: In the Metronome dialog it was possible that the factory settings button could be erroneously disabled.
• Fixed: All versions after Metro 5 did not enable the metronome properly during a count-off when recording.
• Fixed: In some cases Automatic MIDI through was not working properly. Usually when the output number was greater than 128.
• Fixed: A problem with Rendering Audio tracks from soft-synths have been addressed. They would not render correctly if the synth was outputting to multiple outs.
• Fixed: In some cases, a selection from the synth/plugs popup menu would not select the correct track in the EFX window.
• Fixed: there was a very serious bug prior to 6.2.1 making it almost impossible to paste multiple audio tracks from OS 9 saved documents into an OS X document.
• Fixed: Metro no longer simply selects the first track that has a corresponding output for automation. It now selects the first non-archived and non-muted track.
• Fixed: Metro now does a better job determining if a track is empty when it is changed from MIDI to audio or visa versa.
If the track is empty then no error message is presented.
• Fixed: Metro was incorrectly updating the VU Meter display in the track window when a record-enabled track was delselected or selected.
This would only occur in a very loud environment.
• Fixed: The Metro LX file menu was messed up because the save as copy item was missing.
• Fixed: Automation on a soft-synth was not always looping properly when the soft-synth was installed as a track-insert.
• Fixed: Sometimes the information related to a different section was showing in the Mixer windows contextual menus input submenu.
• Fixed: Effect bypass was not being saved with the Metro document so upon reloading a document, bypass was mysteriously being re-enabled.
• Fixed: There was a problem whereby audio files that were out of scope and not saved (temporary) were not being deleted.
• Fixed: automation were not being pasted for Soft-Synths without any audio data (regions).
• Fixed: Importing a .WAV file was unnecessarily creating a new section in certain instances.
• Fixed: In some cases the plug-in preset was not being displayed when it should in the graphic editor program field.
• Fixed: The plug-in window's insert menu was broken.
• Fixed: Dragging a section to an empty track converts the track to MIDI which makes it suitable to accept subsections.
• Fixed: The plug-ins window would flash when scrolling under OS 9.
• Fixed: The tempo dialog's 'Select Marker Header' appeared very strange and unpredictable in OS 9.

New to 6.2.0.1:

• Metro is much more multi-device ReWire compliant.
The Rewire menu has been changed to allow the selection of ReWire slave devices. Metro remembers the last selected ReWire device when it launches (hold the option-key to not load ReWire devices upon launch).
In OS 9 Metro will not be able to quit the slave device. Quit the slave manually before quitting Metro. Hopefully we will be able to auto-quit the slave like we do in OS X in a subsequent version.
Metro is still limited to one slave at a time and, at this time, only supports one audio output from the slave.
• Metro is now better at catching and reporting errors that occur when initializing audio playback.
• Qualifying Metro did not work for number '98' because a single space character was inadvertently added to the end of the qualifying name.
• Some major problems with VST presets have been corrected.
All presets written from Metro versions 6.0.2 thru 6.2 were written incorrectly. 6.2.0.1 now automatically fixes these errant presets transparently.
It was impossible to save presets in OS 9. This has been fixed.
In some cases built-in presets would be overwritten when parameters were tweeked.
If the plug-in switch 'Plug-in Handles Presets' is selected then it is up to the plug-in to handle presets and Metro will only send preset changes to the plug-in when the preset is selected.
Older plug-ins that did not support VST 2.0's ProgramNameIndexed would have garbage in the name of the preset if the switch 'Plug-in Handles Presets' was selected.
• In OS 9 switching from an ASIO audio device driver to built-in would sometimes leave the record audio input select field blank. It now displays 'ASIO'.
• Metro only shows a preset popup in the program field of the graphic editor if the plug-in has more than one preset. However, prior to 6.2.0.1 Metro was not counting user created presets before comparing to one.
• The Synth popup in the graphic editor was not working at all in OS 9.
• Selecting edit-plug from the graphic editor synth/plug-in popup would, in some rare circumstances, bring up the EFX window with the wrong track or aux buss selected.
• Because of what we believe to be a bug in Quicktime, Metro was not able to export .MP4 or .3GPP files. A workaround has corrected this.

New to 6.2:

• NEW: Metro SE now supports 8 audio tracks and 8 effect plug-ins or 2 soft-synths.
• NEW: Metro LX now supports 16 audio tracks and 16 effect plug-ins or 4 soft-synths.
• NEW: ReWire support. Metro acts a mixer application only (i.e. Master). New ReWire menu allows disconnecting transports and more. ReWire required an open aux buss.
• NEW: The graphics editor has been vastly improved to support soft-synth, effect plug-ins and presets directly. A new track header popup within the graphic editor will allow instantiation of a plug-in and create mixer outputs automatically now. Presets will appear in the program field of the graphic editor.
• NEW: Auto tempo detection when an audio loop is first imported to a section.
• NEW: "save as copy" menu item works exactly like "save as" except it does not set the default filename and does not add the copy to the open recent files menu.
• NEW: Contextual menu in the mixer window allows the user to trace the inputs to a fader, store the current automation (fader levels) at the beginning of the track, store the current automation at the selection, replace automation, edit, clear, group etc.
• NEW: Popup in the tempo dialog conveniently allows the user to get the time of the marker so that the tempo can be changed to end at the marker time. Excellent for film work.
• NEW: Options in plug-ins contextual menu provides for better compatibility with some NI plug-ins for resizing edit windows. There is also a new option for specifying which plug-ins will appear in the graphic editor plug-in/softsynth popup.
• NEW: Metro now remembers the size of the effects editor window. This is important for plug-ins such as the VST version of Native Instruments Reaktor.
• NEW: Spray tool dialog has been reorganized and now has a check box which block consecutive pitches from occurring.
• NEW: Audio Optimizations.
• NEW: An 'ƒ' character appears in the windows menu if the window is floating.
• NEW: Jukebox data is automatically updated upon playback.
• NEW: VST 2 support has been improved.
• NEW: The links dialog display is improved.
• NEW: The waveform button in the graphic editor now toggles the region edit switch.
• NEW: Help tags now display the time in the graphic editor.
• NEW: selection filter option. A checkbox now allows the user to select every 2nd event or every n out of m events.
• NEW: The 'EFX' word has been removed from the bank field of the tracks window making it possible to select a bank for soft-synth there.
• NEW: Highliting of text and all of the text options available using QuickTIme movie text are now exposed to the user.
• FIXED: In some rare instances on G4 version only, if the effects dry level was up all the way the resulting audio was wrong.
• FIXED: Real-time editing of audio while cue-looping has been improved.
• FIXED: If an audio track was mono and it had some automation set to zero an optimization in the audio engine contained a serious bug causing garbage data to play for very short time periods.
• FIXED: Overall stability and compatibility of AudioUnit plug-ins have been improved including support for new AudioUnit features. Including work around for a crash in Crystal 2.4.9 and older versions of Sampletank II.
• FIXED: The drawing of continuous data over a drum track is improved.
• FIXED: Aux names are no longer overwritten when new aux busses are created.
• FIXED: Jukebox bit rates are calculated correctly now for AIFF files.
• FIXED: Miscellaneous minor display problems.
• FIXED: Effects types are now tracked when loading saved documents so that an audiounit plug will not be substituted for a VST one and visa versa.
• FIXED: In some cases audio volume automation was being quantized to fader screen positions.
• FIXED: a bug that caused the Mixer VU's, under certain circumstances, to display data after playback under OS 9 only.
• FIXED: Metro now correctly ignores any Mach-O plug-ins placed within the plug-in path whose folder name contains the word 'disable'.
• FIXED: A bug that made it difficult in some cases to add a single column (as opposed to double column) of text using the Movie Text window.
• FIXED: Double clicking in the name field of the tracks window now correctly takes you to the first event in the graphic editor.

Since Metro is a package, the modification date refers to the folder and is not accurate. Open the package, look inside the contents/MacOS and then get info on the application.

I forget to mention:
•New: Metro supports the parsing of .MIDINam files. These are documents produced for apps like digital performer I believe but they work for importing the banks and program names of plug-ins like BitHeadZ:Unity
