-1 error

Postby timegan1961 » Sat Mar 19, 2005 8:26 pm

:( Recently experiencing the following error box when starting Metro:

"Couldn't successfully startup or quit the application because.

Result = -1"

Box has Metro logo in left hand corner and an OK button. When I press OK, Metro launches and runs with no problems. I have tried deleting all Metro preference files and I still get the error. I have re-intalled Metro with the same result. Lastly, I have disabled all plugins. Still the same problem. :twisted: This one has me stumped! Any suggestions? Has anyone else seen this before?

That is weird because that is not a Metro error. In other words, Metro is not popping up that dialog. How are you starting Metro? Try disabling any OS utilities you may have.

I am running Metro with OS 10.3.8 on a 1ghz ibook with 1256 meg ram. Regarding your response, I was wondering whether this was a Metro error or some other system error, but had know way to confirm. Thanks for confirming that it is not a probelm with Metro.

I am open to suggestions as to what might be causing the probelm. It is bizarre in that I have not installed any thing new on my computer nor have I changed anything regarding computer hardware or software. This problem seemed to come out of no where! I would suspect a corrupt system or preferences file, but not too sure where to start. I will boot from exterrnal firewire drive as a start to see if changing the startup disk resolves the problem. I will keep you posted and thanks again for your response.

Scoot, I found the same 2 error codes as well. Problem is, I have no idea what these codes mean. Do you have any idea what these two errors mean or what steps I should take to isolate the problem? I recently ran Techtool; rebuilt directories, optimized hard drive, yet still have the same problem. Also ran activity monitor while launching Metro to see if I could see what other activities were active. Nothing out of the ordinary happening. Any suggestions would be greatly apprectiated! Thanks!

Booting from the other drive did not help?

Was still having -1 error until I recently downloaded security update from Apple. After installation, I re-booted and launced Metro and much to my surprise, the problem was gone.:D Very Strange!

I suspect that what cured the problem was not the security update, but rather the volume optimization that the installer performed. At any rate, problem is gone. I'll let you know if it starts up again and thanks for your responses.

Virus on a Mac :shock: I thought Macs were immune to viruses :!: Seriously though, Jerm makes a valid point. If it was a virus, then perhaps security update did remove it. Either way, I am glad the problem is history :D
