"Metro quit unexpectedly" opening Metro Doc (Sampl

Postby sommerg » Mon Sep 13, 2010 11:44 pm

Crashing while opening a Metro document. All softwares are at latest version.

Occurs during "Loading plug-in..." while loading the last of 12 plugins which is SampleTank. The first 7 plugins are SampleTank, the next 4 plugins are Korg Legacy (Mono/Poly), and then the crash comes while loading the final plugin (which is the 8th instance of SampleTank).

Here's some of the log:

Hello Gary,

Thanks for the report.

Wow. 8 instances of Sampletank that is potentially 64 parts + many instances of legacy. That must be a monster piece you are working on.

I don't know how adept you are at reading crash logs but this crash appears deep within sampletank during an AU:restorestate and thus I recommend you send it to IK multimedia tech support. You might try a couple of things first.

Remove all the other plug-ins you are using (e.g. Korg legacy) temporarily from their plug-ins folder (AU or VST). Then retry to load the document. Metro should be unable to load the other plug-ins and give you an error message so just continue to see if the crash reoccurs.

If it doesn't crash, make a copy of the document (save as) with just the sampletank tracks. Restore the legacy plugins and then try loading the other plug-ins back one at a time each time saving between loads. I suspect that it will probably crash without legacy as IK may be have imposed a limit on the number of instances of sampletank either unintentionally or intentionally.

In either case you can email me the Metro document and I can do some anyalysis of it.

Jeremy

I think I haven't figured out how to use plugins w/ Metro efficiently yet. Each instance of Sampletank (ST) just uses the first "part" so there are 8 ST instruments and 4 Legacy. I'll post a question on how to use multiple ST parts from 1 track in Metro in the Plugins topic.

I had the idea ST was crashing, I wanted to see if you saw anything strange leading up to it. I really appreciate your troubleshooting ideas - I'll definitely give them a shot - there is some work there I don't want to lose.

Actually I should have said 8 X 16 or 128 parts, which is more tracks than Metro supports (at least in a single sequence).

Each instance of ST2 supports 16 MIDI channels. In the plug-ins window, right click on ST2 and be sure 'multitimbral' is checked. Then when you instantiate ST2 from the track window or graphic editor, it will be assigned to an aux buss. This will also cause Metro to create 16 outputs when ST2 is instantiated.

In the tracks window simply assign output ST2-1 to track 1 and ST2-2 to track 2 and so on and so forth. In this example, track 1 will send to ST2 on channel 1 and track 2 will send to ST2 on channel 2. In ST2 simply load up sounds on the corresponding channels.

In your example you really only need a single instance of ST2 and you still have room for 8 more tracks/sounds.

I was able to open the file by removing ST2 from the plugins folder. This allowed me (after putting the plugin back and restarting Metro) to create the multitimbral ST2 and then use that for the tracks.

Up & running again - THANKS!
