PianoTeq Plugin error

Postby MediaUnion » Tue Feb 27, 2007 2:41 am

Hey Scoot,

I was messing with the PianoTeq Trial plugin and it plays with Metro great
Until... you save the piece then re-open it. When you re-open the piece, Metro begins to load all plug-ins until it hits the PianoTeq.
You can find the plug-in MacOS X version, v1.0.4 (Universal Binary) (last modified: 2007/02/21 22:23:05)

http://pianoteq.com/trialversion

Metro throws the following error:
"Pianoteq Trial 1.0.4-demo/20070221
Fatal Error

vpn.hh
consistency check 201 failed
last successful at vpn.hh"

I'm running a Mac-tel 20" iMac 2 GHz
1.5 GB ram
OS 10.4.8
Metro 6.3.8.3

The console log shows:
Metro(292,0xa000cfc0) malloc: *** error for object 0xd99a6b0: incorrect checksum for freed object - object was probably modified after being freed, break at szone_error to debug
Metro(292,0xa000cfc0) malloc: *** set a breakpoint in szone_error to debug

Hope this helps,

Hello Kevin,

Thank you. Both the author of PinaoTeq and I are looking into this matter and we will probably point fingers either at him or myself after further analysis. Hopefully we won't be pointing fingers at each other.

Well the crash occurs within PianoTeq but debugging this uncovered a bug in Metro whereby it is not restoring the plug-ins parameters correctly on intel Macintoshes. I am still waiting to hear back from the author of PianoTeq so I will let you know if I hear anything useful.

Well I heard back from the author of PianoTeq and it turns out there were two bugs, one in Metro and one in PianoTeq. Both have been corrected. His fix will mean that PianoTeq will work correctly but because of the Metro bug it may still not work with Metro on Intel Macs until a new version of Metro is released.

He says he will have an update released soon.

Hey Jerm,

Thanks for the update.
Is there a release/patch timeline on the metro side of things?
I have deleted the PianoTeq files from the library/Audio/plugins and Metro will load the songfile without crashing.

Thanks for looking into this,
Kevin Laurila

Well it is built and is undergoing an initial testing period and then it will be out there as bug fix version 6.3.8.4 within the next week or so.

Hey Jerm,

Downloaded the Metro update 6.3.8.4.
I have contacted Julien Pommier @ pianoteq regarding a patch to their trial version.
Thanks for updating Metro.

If you go to the plug-ins window and control (right) click on Pianoteq and then set it to 'plug-in manages presets' then you can load your saved pianoteq documents even with the current version. This assumes you are running Metro 6.3.8.4.

Hey Jerm,

Thanks! It loads great.
I didn't even know I had the ability to manage plugin behavior by right clicking. That is really nice!

The newly released Pianoteq 2 seems to work flawlessly without any configuration.
