Unexpected-quit with Absynth-2 VST plugin

Postby cornutt » Mon Sep 01, 2003 11:36 pm

I've just downloaded my Absynth-2 upgrade and I'm trying to get it to work with Metro. I select the Apple DLS music device plug-in and click on the button that allows me to select a plug-in. I go to the Absynth folder and select the VST 2.0 Carbon version of the plug-in. Problem: After I click OK, Metro unexpectedly quits. Raw data: OSX 10.2.3, Metro 6.0.8. G4 dual processor with 1G main memory.

Also: I can't figure out how to talk to the stand-alone Absynth. In OS9, it just appears as a port selection in the Modify Ports (Instruments) dialog, and I can create a port for it, but this doesn't seem to be the case with OSX. Is there a way to configure it in Audio MIDI Setup?

:? I am confused. Why do you ' select the Apple DLS music device plug-in'? If you want to use absynth shouldn't you select it?

I really don't know too much about this plug-in but I will try to get a copy. Native Instruments has been very forthcoming in the past. After a few problems Vokator now works well in Metro.

OSX - If you stick or rather drag the carbon vst version of absynth into the folder at (your hard disk's name)/library/audio/plugins/vst it works fine.

A quick short cut is to open the metro folder and throw it on top of the OSX vst plugins alias.

Absynth appears in the plugins window and you just drag it across to the effect window to use. This part of the process takes ages. It must be pre loading the samples into ram or something.

The OSX version currently does not allow for editing of the samples in the vst plug. For that you need to use the stand alone app.
Apparently OS9 and windows version plugins can edit.

I suspect your problem could be 10.2.3 related......cause everything works fine in 10.2.6. There is the occasional quit......usually due to me doing something stupid. :)

You raise some interesting points.
I thought stand alone meant it works by itself.....I didn't think a stand alone version of something could be used inside something else.
