Ritmo (AU drum sampler) only mono in Metro?

Postby matro » Sat May 31, 2003 10:46 pm

I paid the $25 for the new Ritmo AU drum sampler (it's pretty cool for the $)...but my stereo samples were played mono.

I want to make sure I'm not missing a setting that allows me to chose stereo or mono. Crazy Diamonds works in stereo for me...

The author Chris Reed wrote back to me regarding this, but sounds like he only tests in Logic. Here's what he said:

"Ritmo has three channel settings: mono, stereo, and multichannel. It's up to the host to select the right one based on what the user wants. So it sounds like Metro is just choosing the first option available (i.e., mono).

I'll try it out with a demo of Metro and see if I can reproduce the problem. But I'm not sure there's going to be much I can do if the host is misbehaving. However, I can talk with the developer (Jeremy Sagan)."

Tried it on 6.072 (G4) Full ver.
Thanks!

Yes very strange. Very mono.

Great unexpected quits when I try to resave documents with Ritmo up on screen and when its sitting on the aux bus.

I think the ritmo author still has a few bugs to iron out.

What is lacking in the demo version? Stereo? :D ........well I couldn't see anything else missing.

Okay. I have found this problem even though I have not been contacted by Chris. This will be fixed in 6.0.7.3 which will automatically negotiate AudioUnit plug-in stream formats.

Note that by defaulting to Stereo this could easily be fixed on the plug-in side. I do not have this plug-in (since my beta version expired) so I will not be able to test it.

Jerm.

You could grab the real version.

It seems to be a demo that probably expires after 30 days or something.

Sent Chris Reed (dev.) a link to this page

Postby matro » Tue Jun 03, 2003 10:58 am

I got another reply from the Ritmo developer Chris, trying some suggestions (nice guy), so after looking at this page, I sent him a link to here. Thanks Jerm.

Also to make it sound more stereo, I've been adding in my plug-in window the free stereo simulator carbonized vst plug that you can download here:
http://www.mda-vst.com/vst/mda_vst_fx_mac_osx.sit

I also like to add their Dynamics plug and Chris' free Crunch plug (with sublte touches) for really punchy drums.

P.S. Chris' site linked to an awesome free drumkit that you can use for free as a DLS/Soundfont:
http://www.natural-studio.co.uk/nskit_com/archives.htm

If you have Ritmo, you can choose your favorite samples of the newest kit there. It has lots of different samples of each drum at different volumes, but these are fairly large downloads:

Okay, I was wrong. The I/O channel configurations are not being correctly detected and set in Metro 6.0.7.2. This will be corrected in 6.0.7.3.

Matro,

I am assuming that Ritmo is working on 2 or more channels now. Correct?

Yeah, thanks fixing that right away!

I thought this post was overwith, but I saw a new message...

Also, I noticed that you also got Ritmo's saved files working correctly. I didn't want to whine too much since the developer didn't test on Metro, but thanks for doing that too.
